Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube Premium or HBO Max: Which Is Worth It in Nepal?

Five services, five very different libraries. A side-by-side look at what each one is best at, what it costs in rupees, and which one to pick first.
Streaming in Nepal used to mean one choice: Netflix. Now there are half a dozen services worth paying for, and they barely overlap. The question is not which one is best, but which one has the things you actually watch.
Here is a quick, honest comparison, with the lowest price for each at Ottsewa.
| Service | Best for | From |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Big series, Korean dramas, documentaries | Rs 350 a month |
| Prime Video | The Boys, Indian originals like Mirzapur and Panchayat | Rs 299 for 3 months |
| YouTube Premium | No ads on YouTube, background play, YouTube Music | Rs 399 a month |
| HBO Max | House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, prestige drama | Rs 499 a month |
| ZEE5 | Hindi films and ZEE TV serials | Rs 499 a month |
| Crunchyroll | Anime, new episodes soon after Japan | Rs 399 a month |
Netflix: the safe first pick
If you only pay for one service, Netflix is still the one with something for everyone in the house: global hits, Korean dramas, anime, Indian films and a lot of documentaries. A private, PIN-locked profile costs Rs 350 a month, or Rs 2,999 for a full year.
Prime Video: the best value
Prime Video is the cheapest way to stream a big library. Three months cost Rs 299 and a whole year Rs 999, which is less than three months of most other services. It is especially strong on Indian originals: Mirzapur, Panchayat, The Family Man and Farzi all live here.
YouTube Premium: the one you will use every day
This is different from the others. You already watch YouTube daily, and Premium simply removes the ads, keeps videos and music playing with the screen off, and lets you download for later. It also includes YouTube Music. On a family invitation it costs Rs 399 a month, or Rs 2,299 for a year, and it goes on the Google account you already use.
HBO Max: for the big-name series
House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Succession and the whole of Game of Thrones. If those are the shows people around you talk about, HBO Max is worth a month or two, from Rs 499 without ads.
ZEE5: Hindi serials and films
If your family follows ZEE TV serials, ZEE5 Premium shows many episodes before they air on TV, without ads, from Rs 499 a month.
Crunchyroll: if you watch anime
One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Solo Leveling and thousands more, with new episodes shortly after Japan and Hindi dubs on many popular series. Mega Fan starts at Rs 399.
Our suggestion
- One service only: Netflix, or Prime Video if budget matters most.
- Two services: Netflix plus YouTube Premium covers almost everything most people watch.
- Both Netflix and Prime Video: the combo puts them on one order from Rs 450 a month.
